Vitamin A benefits for skin
Vitamin A is one of those vitamins which quietly flies under the radar, but it has tremendous benefits for the skin.
Mum and dad were right!
We all remember our parents telling us to eat more carrots because they’re full of vitamin A and it’s really good for our eyes. But vitamin has even greater benefits for your skin than eyes.
Anti-aging
The specific group of chemicals i will focus on here are called Retinoids. They are closely related to Vitamin A and they are the most commonly used type of Vitamin A in creams.
So what are other Vitamin A benefits for the skin?
Well firstly it promotes collagen growth.
Best way to explain what collagen does for the skin is to imagine the following.
Fill a balloon with water, what would the balloon surface feel like? nice and smooth.
Now pour the water out. And the surface will probably be more wrinkly.
So collagen is the filler for the skin. and by promoting it’s growth the skin will appear fuller.
Younger & more radiant skin
Among vitamin a benefits for the skin is that it increases skin turnover.
What does this mean?
It means the dead cells sitting on top of your skin are removed faster and are replaced by newer skin cells;
so skin appears more radiant.
Reduces dark circles around eyes
Vitamin A benefits for the skin don’t end there; for those who suffer from those annoying brown/dark circles around the eyes, there is good news. Retinoid creams will take care of that as well.
Prevents Acne breakouts
And finally, one of the biggest vitamin A benefits for skin is in treating acne. It has been shown to reduce breakouts.
Which side effects should you watch for?
Although vitamin A benefits for the skin are impressive, there are things you need to watch out for.
Keep an eye out for the following:
- Skin redness and irritation – especially in the initial stages of treatment
- Increased skin peeling.
- Skin may become more prone to sun burn – probably not a good idea to start using during a holiday in a very hot country.
Which one should you buy?
I would strongly recommend you start using this under the supervision of a doctor or a pharmacist; if you want to use it as an anti-ageing product.
The reason being there are so many different forms and strengths and you will need some guidance to get the maximum benefit from it.
