Pura d'or shampoo and conditioner review

Pura D’OR shampoo claims to clean, thicken, increase hair volume and prevent hair loss.

Those are pretty grand claims!

So in this review I will examine if these claims are justified or if they are another case of marketing Froth.

The shampoo formerly known as "anti-hairloss"

Pura D’Or used to be marketed as” anti hair loss” , but it is now marketed as” anti-thinning”.

Interesting!

I don’t know the circumstances that led the company to change their branding, but I suspect they may have been challenged on the anti hair loss claims. This is something that has happened to other brands and has led to legal challenges.

Anyway, this shampoo is for men and women. Pura D’or shampoo retails at $30 for 473ml. There is an option to buy a conditioner as well. Looking at the price we can immediately see that this shampoo is right at the top end of the price range for shampoos.

Ingredients of Pura D'or shampoo

in terms of ingredients, they are a mix of herbs and seeds which the company claim help with improving the health of the hair and scalp.

The ingredients of Pura D’Or shampoo are:

Nettle extract

Saw Palmetto

Red Korean seaweed

Aloe vera

tea tree

Argan nuts

black Cumin seeds

Cedarwood

Hibiscus

Clary sage

rosemary

Pumpkin seeds

Green tea

Amla fruit

Lemon peel

grapefruit seed

Lemongrass

willow bark

Biotin

Niacin

zinc

The company claims that the shampoo contains 17 DHT blockers. DHT is the enzyme responsible for genetic hair loss, mostly in men.

From the list of the ingredients, the only one which I can recognize as having DHT blocking qualities, is saw Palmetto. So to claim that these are 17 DHT blocking ingredients is probably not entirely accurate.

Having said that, these are wonderful ingredients for the health of the scalp and vitality of the hair. So they do have some undoubted benefits.

Is Pura D'ora shampoo scientifically proven?

I noticed on the Amazon page of Pura D’or, that the company claim their shampoo is “clinically tested”.

When something is clinically tested that means it has been tested under known laboratory conditions and standards. I looked everywhere on the company’s amazon page and I couldn’t find any references which gave further details on this claim. or example, any references to scientific papers.

The only thing I saw on the page was an experiment where people brushed their hair before and after using the shampoo, to assess the extent of their hair loss, by the amount of hair left on the brush – not the most rigorous scientific experiment I’ve ever seen!

SLS free and cruelty free

Pura D’Or is SLS and paraben free, which is excellent. These are preservatives which have been associated with a skin irritation. Pura D’Or is also cruelty free which means it has not been tested on animals, and is color safe, which means it would not interfere with any of your hair dyes or colors.

Pura D’Or is suitable for vegans.

But please, don’t eat it!!

Gold label and blue label - whats the difference?

I noticed there are two versions of this shampoo, a gold label and a blue label.

According to the company, the gold label shampoo has 15 DHT blockers, while the blue Label has 12.

I’m not really sure who would buy the Blue Label one, or the purpose of it. Surely everyone will buy the one with the most DHT blockers.

Pura D'ora Amazon reviews

Pura D’Or Has an incredible amount of reviews on Amazon in America.

At the time of this blog post, it w just over 10000 reviews – which is amazing.

It has an average star rating of 4.4, which is incredible considering the amount of reviews this shampoo has.

60% of these reviews are five stars, so the majority of people who rated this product are totally satisfied with it.

11% of the reviews where 1 star, so roughly one in 10 people who rated this product were completely unsatisfied with it.

Predictably, the most common reason this shampoo was given 5 Stars, was because it prevented hair loss or improved the health and quality of the hair.

The people who weren’t happy with this shampoo complained that it did not do anything for their hair loss. And I also noticed another interesting complaint , that the shampoo some people received did not match the shampoo advertised on the Amazon page.

I know from past experience , that fake copies of products is quite common on Amazon.

Unscrupulous vendors often copy genuine brands without their knowledge. I don’t know for sure whether this is the case with this brand, but it’s a possibility.

How to use Pura D'or shampoo?

I noticed the company advises that you leave this shampoo on for 2 minutes before rinsing it off.

I totally disagree with this.

I just don’t see how leaving a shampoo on for 2 minutes is sufficient contact time. The ingredients just won’t have enough time to be absorbed across the scalp and get into the hair follicles.

I would have thought a contact time of at least 5 minutes is needed to get the full benefit of all the wonderful ingredients in this shampoo.

Where to buy?

Where to buy

This shampoo is available on Amazon, Both in the UK and the US.

It is also available in major retail stores and pharmacies

Conclusion

Pura D’Or shampoo has some of the best ingredients I have seen in any shampoo.

If those ingredients are really in the shampoo, then I expect it to be incredibly beneficial for the health and vibrancy of your hair and scalp.

But I found very little evidence to suggest this shampoo blocks DHT or significantly improves hair loss. The company has presented very little evidence for their claims on this front.

so if you are looking the to improve the health of your scalp and hair then this is a shampoo to try. but if you are looking to treat hair loss then I suggest you look elsewhere.

  1. Previous version of this shampoo had 15 dht blockers with ketoconazole which worked miracles. But now it’s just ordinary shampoo with false labeling to deceive customers.
