It may surprise some of you but there a lot of products out there which contain known irritants; or at least substances suspected to be irritants.
I see you pull a face and gasp "why are they still sold then?".
Well, because people still buy them and they are not illegal to sell.
An example is sodium Lauryl sulfate (yes, catchy name).
It is fairly common in skin emollients for things like dry skin, eczema..etc.  It acts as a stabilizer and skin cleanser.  And although i haven't checked personally, i suspect it may be used in cosmetic creams as well.
In a recent study, they used a well known emollient for dry skin (which contains SLS) on 100 patients as a test.  56% developed a skin reaction.
But when they tried other emollients, only 18% of patients had a similar reaction.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out which emollient i would use if i had the choice.
Some people still use products with SLS without any problems, but as a professional i no longer recommend it.
And as with all creams, always apply it to a small patch of skin at the back of your hand to test it out.  Particularly for a brand you're using for the first time.

till next time
